Here’s what you need to know to apply:

Age Requirement

Applicants must be 16 years of age or older to participate in the CARICON Poetry Slam.

Poem Requirements

Applicants must submit a performance of one original poem that that they have written. The poem should be no longer than three minutes in length. The poem can be on any topic or theme, but it must be appropriate for a general audience. (Link to performance is accepted)

Application Deadline

The application deadline is November 30th. All applications must be submitted by this date in order to be considered.

Biography & Headshot

Each applicant should provide a 100 word biography and a headshot along with their application. The bio should include information about the applicant’s background, writing experience, and any other relevant information that they would like to share with the judges and audience. The headshot should be a clear, high-quality photograph of the applicant that will be used for promotional purposes if they are selected to participate in the CARICON Poetry Slam.

Judging Criteria

Poems will be judged on the following criteria: originality, creativity, technical skill, and performance. Judges will be looking for poems that are engaging, impactful, and well-crafted.

All participants will receive the CARICON poetry slam medal.
